How Speedo Rating Works
A plain-English guide to how ratings, handicap bands, and provisional status work on the tour.
- Every player has a numerical rating (default 1500).
- Ratings predict the chance of winning.
- Beating a stronger player earns more points; losing to a stronger player costs fewer.
- Handicap changes the expected result — the weaker player is compensated.
- Official handicap matches use the with-handicap probability for rating changes.
- The no-handicap probability is shown for comparison only.
- Practice and exhibition matches never affect ratings.
- New players are Provisional until they play enough rated matches or tournaments.
- Tournament ratings only become official after the admin finalizes the tournament.
